SCREECH!
(c) Insane Software, 1994, 1995
Original text written 24/10/1994
Full version available 3rd/4th quarter 1995. Keep checking for
forthcoming reviews in various Amiga magazines. The time may vary as
the amount of homework changes.
This demonstration version is public domain and may not be sold for profit.
PD libraries may charge for their distribution costs only.
****************************
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
68020 or better processor, 1MB CHIP RAM and 1/2MB FAST RAM
68030 or better processor with 2MB Chipram
NOTE: Screech! will only run on Amigas with lots of RAM and a decent
CPU. This is a wonderful side-effect of the development tools we used
(try and guess which). We would appreciate it if someone could let us
know how Screech! runs on Amigas running faster than 14 Mhz. If anyone
expresses interest, we may release a cut-down version for the A500.
You'll still need a heap of RAM though :)
If you have a very fast A500(28MHz) and want a working version then
give us a buzz at the address below!
****************************
HISTORY
Screech! began life while initial development of our 'mech' type game
was in progress. We had just added a 32-direction car to attack your
player, and decided that it looked pretty cool. Next thing I knew,
Andrew had it driving around under player control. We seized this
opportunity to improve on our last (and first) effort, Hairpin II (plug,
plug). We had hoped to have Screech! finished within a couple of weeks
(ho ho ho), and to a degree, we did have it finished within a couple of
weeks. Still, there were things we weren't happy with, particularly the
lack of gratuitous violence, so now after close to two months (now even
longer), we are proud to present the demo version of Screech!
THE GAME
Screech! features 10 computer controlled cars, oil slicks, water
patches, exploding pit crews, road kills and everything else you've come
to expect from driving games. It doesn't yet feature amazing graphics
(see below). This version will let you run one race, after which you
will be subjected to some shameless advertising and dumped back to
workbench (or the CLI). The full version will allow you to race with a
computer controlled team mate through several disks full of tracks in
various levels of competition. Just make sure you keep earning enough
money to keep your car on the road. Sponsors and bribes will be there to
grab as well, not to mention lawsuits, stress levels and the constant
threat of jail and/or death!
AMAZING GRAPHICS
If you can create amazing graphics, then we would love to hear from you.
If you are interested, then send us an IFF format track and we'll get
in touch. If we use it and don't ask you, then feel free to sue, but we
are honest guys (really)!
AMAZING IDEAS!
If you have any ideas for the game to make it very and we mean very
tasteless then give us a call.
DISCLAIMER
We make no warranties, either expressed or implied, with respect to the
software described in this document, its quality, performance, or
fitness for any particular purpose. The entire risk as to its quality
and performance is with the user. Should the program prove defective,

from any defect in the software.
INSANE SOFTWARE
An ever-changing conglomeration of friends and acquaintances. For the
purposes of this game, and wherever mentioned in this text, Insane
Software is:
-Andrew Heap
-Jared Quinert
As mentioned earlier, Hairpin II is already available as licenseware,
with (hopefully) an update appearing soon. Forthcoming releases (in no
particular order) are:
-Screech! (You know what to expect)
-Combat 2000 (Combat/Scorched Earth cross)
-Marauder (Robot combat game)
-Star Wars (Working title for space wargame)
BARTERWARE
Screech! is barterware. If you're interested in receiving the full
version, with many more tracks and a nice management side, then send us
8, US $12, AUS $15 or equivalent goods/service, and we'll send you the
complete version of Screech! We'd prefer the cash, but if you'd like to
send disks, games, BBS accounts, Atari 2600/7800 carts (Xevious would be
cool), old Atari 8-bit software, joysticks, or anything else you think
we could use, then feel free to do so. We may also include demos of
forthcoming releases and anything else we deem interesting. Alternativ-
ely, if you are a programmer, or involved in the production of shareware
or PD games then send us a copy of your game. We hope to set up a net-
work of amateur game developers and share our skills around.
Eg: We need graphics, and can supply music. We would also like to be
able to set up a nice distribution network with our fellow developers.
It would also be nice to have someone else test our software, and share
ideas and suggestions.
